Tuesday 16th September
Senior Men's Open

Gorleston Golf Club was founded in 1906 and is internationally famous for being the most Easterly course in the British Isles.

The club is steeped in history and tradition and is widely regarded as one of the best private members clubs in Norfolk with over 34,000 rounds played by members, visitors and societies each year.

The course is situated on the dramatic coastal cliffs of Gorleston and sprawls across an intriguing mix of cliff top links and tranquil parkland.

Our friendly atmosphere clubhouse offers a magnificent panorama over the course and out towards the North sea horizon.

We offer all things delicious from a light lunch to a banquet in our spacious 100-seat restaurant and every year we host more than 120 social events, society outings, special occasions and functions.

The club values our junior section and that’s why we are proud of our prestigious GolfMark accreditation in recognition of our junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.

The club celebrated its Centenary in 2006 and is as popular today as years gone by!

Seniors Champion winner - Keith Bagot 2014

Seniors Open - Double delight for Keith Bagot

Rookery Park member and Gorleston Second Club member Keith Bagot was on top form today to land the spoils in this year’s Seniors Open. A full field of 79 took part in the Stableford competition to decide the Champion Senior for 2014 and despite some very dreary and damp conditions for most of the morning, the sun shone on Keith as he compiled an excellent score of 40 points to lift the Open Trophy for the first time. At the outset of the round, which began at the 11th hole, winning looked a distant prospect as a duffed tee shot left a full nine iron into the par three and eventually Keith was fortunate to one putt for a bogey four. Worse followed on the 12th, finding the trees off the tee and managing to find seven balls in the undergrowth but none of them were his! After that, he certainly got his act together! Not the first time, however, that Keith has been on the winner’s podium for this event as he won the trophy for Best Visitor in the 2011 competition. Obviously not content with this achievement, Keith went one better and won both trophies today, narrowly beating Gorleston’s Malcolm Lake into second after his round of 39 points. Although Rookery Park is Keith’s home club, he takes every opportunity to play as much golf at Gorleston as he possibly can and is a worthy and popular winner for 2014.

Suffolk Seniors' Jubilee Shield team - Sept 2014 (F)

County success for Suffolk Seniors Jubilee Shield team

The final of the Suffolk Seniors Jubilee Shield was contested yesterday between Gorleston and Rookery Park at the neutral venue of Thorpeness. The Gorleston team, sponsored by Mark Everard of Ovamill Ltd once again enjoyed the lion’s share of the support from our enthusiastic band of travelling fans and their help and encouragement certainly gave the players an extra lift. Despite a very up and down score line, the end result was extremely close; Captain Marion Anderson and Sue Smith led the proceedings and recorded a victory by two holes, before Maureen Dark and Jan Spilsted were on the wrong end of a serious beating by nine holes in the second game. This was not as bad as it sounded due to the fact that Heather Harvey and Terrie Collingwood were having things very much their own way in the third game, eventually recording a pleasing victory by eight holes to restore order for the overall score. Penny Platten and Rosemary Woodhouse were having their own private battle in the fourth game and were relieved to eventually come out of a very tough match with a one hole victory which gave the team an overall margin of victory by two holes. Marion proudly received the shield at the presentation ceremony held immediately after the last putts had fallen in front of the Gorleston team and our cheering spectators.
